The Traveling Players 1975
Plot Synopsis
An indisputable landmark in cinema, this second chapter in Angelopoulos' A Trilogy of History is an epic drama that traces Greek history from 1939 to 1952, or from World War II until the aftermath of the Civil War. Here we witness one of Angelopoulos' signatures: the breathtaking long shots. Filmed, incredibly, during the rule of a military junta, it traces a group of itinerant performers who travel with their performance of the pastoral play Golpho The Shepherdess. Alas, their shows are continuously disrupted by the politics of the time.
